DENTURES

WHO ARE DENTURES FOR

Dentures are an effective and affordable solution for those who have lost their natural teeth. Dentures are prosthetic devices that are designed to look and feel like natural teeth, and they can be used to replace one to several missing teeth, or an entire set of teeth. At Woodbourne Dental, we provide you with various options when it comes to dentures: Acrylic Dentures are available to NHS and Private patients, Chrome Cobalt Dentures are typically provided on a Private basis, and Valplast Dentures are only available to Private patients. Speak to your dentist about your options.

WHY WOULD I NEED DENTURES?

Dentures are recommended by dentists for a variety of reasons. They can help to restore the patient’s ability to chew and speak normally, and they can also improve the patient’s appearance by providing a natural-looking smile. Dentures can also help to prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of alignment, which can cause further dental issues. Dentures are suitable for anyone who has lost their natural teeth, whether due to injury, decay, or another cause. The alternative to dentures is dental implants, which are permanent and more expensive than dentures. Dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone, and they can be used to replace a single tooth or an entire set of teeth.

HOW SHOULD I CLEAN MY DENTURES?

After-care for dentures is relatively simple and similar to looking after natural teeth. The patient should brush their dentures with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a non-abrasive toothpaste, and they should also soak the dentures in a denture cleanser overnight. It’s important to keep the dentures moist when they are not in use, and the patient should also visit the dentist regularly for check-ups.

HOW DO I GET DENTURES?

The treatment for dentures typically takes several visits to the dentist. During the first visit, the dentist will take an impression of the mouth to create a custom-fitted denture. The denture is then made in a dental laboratory by a dental technician, and the patient will return for a fitting appointment. The denture may require a few adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit. Dentures do not typically hurt, as they are designed to fit comfortably in the mouth. However, the patient may experience some discomfort or soreness when they first get their dentures, as the mouth needs time to adjust to the new prosthetic.
