COSMETIC BONDING

ENHANCE THE APPEARANCE OF YOUR TEETH WITH COSMETIC BONDING

Cosmetic bonding describes the bonding of a tooth-coloured resin to an existing tooth, with the objective of repairing defects. Cosmetic bonding is suitable for anyone who wants to improve the appearance of their smile. It is especially beneficial for those who have chips, cracks, gaps, or discoloration in their teeth. It is a quick and cost-effective way to improve the appearance of your smile, and the results can last for several years.

WHAT IS COSMETIC BONDING?

Cosmetic bonding is a dental procedure that is used to improve the appearance of teeth. It is a minimally-invasive procedure that involves applying a tooth-colored composite resin to the surface of the tooth. The cosmetic bonding procedure usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour. During the procedure, the dentist will first prepare the tooth by cleaning and etching the surface. The resin is applied in layers, and then hardened with a special light. The resin is shaped to mimic the original tooth and involves a minimum alteration to the natural tooth enamel. Tooth bonding is generally used to fix smaller defects in one or two teeth, or to change the shape of a tooth, and the treatment is usually completed in a single visit. The treatment is typically reversible, virtually painless, and will usually last for many years.

IS A COSMETIC BONDING PROCEDURE PAINFUL?

Cosmetic bonding does not usually cause any pain. The procedure is minimally-invasive, and a local anesthetic may be used to numb the area before the procedure. After the procedure, patients can expect some sensitivity to hot and cold foods. This is normal and should subside within a few days. It is important to avoid chewing hard foods or biting on hard objects, as this can damage the resin. Patients should also brush and floss their teeth as normal, but should avoid abrasive toothpastes and whitening products.

WHAT OTHER PROCEDURES CAN ENHANCE THE APPEARANCE OF MY TEETH?

The alternatives to cosmetic bonding are veneers and crownsVeneers are often recommended for more extensive smile makeovers. Veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that are bonded to the front of the tooth, and crowns are full-coverage caps that are placed over the entire tooth. Both of these options are more invasive than cosmetic bonding, and they are usually more expensive.
